The latest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser contains a bug that can enable serious security attacks against websites that are otherwise safe. The flaw in IE 8 can be exploited to introduce XSS, or cross-site scripting, errors on webpages that are otherwise safe, according to two Register sources, who discussed the bug on the condition they not be identified. Microsoft was notified of the vulnerability a few months ago, they said.
Ironically, the flaw resides in a protection added by Microsoft developers to IE 8 that's designed to prevent XSS attacks against sites. The feature works by rewriting vulnerable pages using a technique known as output encoding so that harmful characters and values are replaced with safer ones. A Google spokesman confirmed there is a "significant flaw" in the IE 8 feature but declined to provide specifics.

Hacktivism
The word hacktivism is a combination of hacking and activism. A hacktivist is someone who uses system penetration to propagate a political, social, or religious message. The targets of such individuals are mostly high profile Web server environments where as many people as possible see their message.
The level of such a hacktivist is often that of the script kiddy. Because the whole exercise is done to promote the message and not to attack the system, the process of penetration itself is not of particular interest to the hacktivist.
This holds true for most hacktivism. Lately, especially in the conflicts between the United States and China, hacktivism obtained a new face. Hacker groups or individuals ranging from script kiddies and crackers to Black Hats started attacking and defacing Chinese Web sites. The Web pages of political organizations in Afghanistan became targets for hundreds of attackers after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in September, 2001.

Information covering the removal of boot sector viruses from the hard drive.
The process needed to remove this type of virus from hard drive and memory is as follows:
NOTE: The instructions below are for Windows 95, 98 and ME. Users of NT, 2K and XP should not reboot their machine and should consult their anti-virus vendor for case-by-case support. The process below will not remove viruses from infected floppies, these must be scanned and disinfected after the memory and hard drive are clean.
* Boot the machine from a clean, write-protected floppy system diskette.
* This will take you to the DOS prompt (something like A:\> .)
* You now need to run your anti-virus scanner or disinfect manually.

ConceptsSince I’m about to describe how to roll your own router, it will help if you understand how most TCP/IP routing works. Any router, whether Cisco, Proteon, or Linux, is based upon the premise that packets need to be forwarded. Why? Because, presumably, the packets that come in on one interface are not local to the other interfaces in the router. Therefore, the router in question must be able to take a packet, look at its destination, and forward it to the appropriate interface.
How does the router map network destinations to interfaces? Well, just as every router needs to be able to forward packets, so too it needs the ability to consult, build, and update a lookup table, called a routing table, that maps destination networks to interfaces. If a packet comes in for network X, the routing table is consulted and the packet is dumped to the appropriate interface -- a local node that is either another gateway or the packet’s final destination. If network X does not exist in the routing table, the packet is dumped to the default destination, also denoted by IP address 0.0.0.0. If you have not specified a default destination, the packet is dropped, and an ICMP "Destination Unreachable" message is sent back to the originating network client.
